DARKO FRITZ       CROATIA

 

 

Darko Fritz works with various media and technologies including fax actions and installations, sound, computer, and video, to bridge the spheres of contemporary art practices and media art culture.

Born in Croatia, 1966, he lives and works in Amsterdam and Zagreb. As well as being a media artist he is a curator and graphic designer. He studied architecture at the University of Zagreb (1986-1989) and media art at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (1990-1992).

He has worked with video since 1988, creating TV Virus and his first computer generated environment in 1988. He presents his works in different contexts and environments: galleries/museums, Internet, broadcast media (TV, Radio) and interventions in architectural and public spaces.

He was a founding member of the artist collectives Cathedral (1988), The Imitation of Life Studio (1987-1990), Young Croatian Electronic Films (1991) and The Future State of Balkania (1998). He participated within the networks of new media culture [Syndicate, Spectre, Mama, CultureNet]. He is a member of the artists ssociations and societies: Arti et Amicitiae, HDLU, ULUPUH, VVK, HZSU.

He has works in the collections of Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Museum of of Contemporary Art, Zagreb; Skopje City Museum; the World Bank, Washington; Museum of Applied Art, Zagreb, National Library, Zagreb.

The 'End of the Message' project has been realized in seven phases from 1995 to 2000. The seventh hase consisting of archivising entire project, as at this web document and printed publication and 13 minutes 'End of the Message - total archives' video [see here]. The End of the Message interactive DVD is published in 2005 and consists of 3 hours and 13 minutes of video material from this project [ available via Cornerhouse Publications [UK] ]
